June 23rd, 2010, Ash Grove, MO – Hartville, MO

Day 29

Our ride today would turn out to be a little change of pace.  We started at our normal hour after sweating the whole night through camping in the nasty humidity of Missouri.  However, after 46 miles we decided to take a break from the heat and visit the nearby town of Springfield, MO.

We first traveled to Missouri State University where the local Fijis provided us with lunch and some time to simply chill out.  We all enjoyed the company of the brothers from another chapter and really enjoyed taking a load off and being in the air conditioning.  We were encouraged to see several brothers come and visit us and enjoyed seeing the dynamics of fraternity brothers from another school.

We then traveled over to the largest bass pro shop in the Continental U.S.  It was almost breath taking but we all walked around for several hours and marveled at the hugeness of this bass pro.  I made a purchase of a frog gig.  The guys thought it would be a waste of space in the trailer originally but then I reminded them of the nights we camped out and heard a bull frog chorus all night and showed them how I could solve the problem.  So, they came to their senses.

We finished the remaining 26 miles of our ride as the sun was going down but we were glad to be out of the heat.  We rode into Hartville, MO and prepared to camp in front of the county courthouse.  We met another cyclist named Mike who is a college student at the University of Central Florida and is riding to raise awareness for Green Energy.  The night was hot but I was able to bathe somewhat under a spicket behind the local bank.  Another night of sweating to death and getting little sleep but I am still having a blast and learning much about myself and God continues to teach me new things all the time.
