June 8th, South Fork, CO - Fort Garland, CO

Day 15,

Last night we were able to stay in a cabin in South Fork, CO.  Special thanks again to Bill Hebb for being so kind to us as we travel on our journey.  The day began with a wonderful pancake breakfast made by Justin Cave.  We got started around 730am and were ready to tackle the 73 mile day.

The day turned out to be pretty flat with some beautiful mountains in the horizon, so we did our best to get done soon but also enjoyed some good conversation along the way.  Cameron Hamilton and I reminisced about our old high school football days.  Cameron played center for the Elizabethtown panthers and I played for Christian Academy of Louisville.  We talked about teams we played, our favorite memories, and even some bad stories of choking on mouthpieces or getting tripped up by your own teammate on your way to scoring a touchdown.

For lunch we stopped at Wendy’s (around 1030 haha) and encountered our first place since heading east that had sweet tea.  It was an epic moment at the Alamosa, CO Wendy’s and we probably weirded the people their out a little bit.  But, we already looked a little weird as we were all in matching spandex uniforms.

We finished early again today as we arrived at the Motor Inn in Fort Garland, CO.  The manager of the place was very nice and had a pretty interesting accent, I think he is French or German or something like that.  But, thanks again to the wonderful Bill Hebb of Hebb cycling we had a nice place to crash for the night.

It was an enjoyable day as several of us rode together on the ride and had some good talks.  We talked about what we had enjoyed on the ride, movies we liked, and goals for the fraternity for the next semester.

In two days I leave to go to back to Louisville, Ky to be a groomsmen in my close friend Eric Lutz’s wedding.  I am looking forward to experiencing this momentous day with him and our friends and I know it will be a memory to last a lifetime.
