Day 11

This day was truly remarkable.  We rode through Monument Valley on our way to cross into Colorado.  Some of the rock formations were remarkable.  There was even a rock called the Mexican hat in which a large rock was sitting on a smaller round rock on the top of a cliff.  How it got there I have no idea but we do know that the monument valley area used to be an ocean bottom so maybe something happened during that time.

The best part of the day for me was a simple sign we passed that I will remember forever.  I have not been able to upload my photos yet, but here is a picture of Tyler with the best sign I had seen all trip:

During Forrest Gump he runs across America several times, a small inspiration of why I am riding haha, and ended in this area during the movie.  He stops and says, “I’m pretty tired, I think I will go home now.”  I think I will probably say something similar when I finish my ride.

We reached our destination in Mancos, CO and were welcomed by my friend Pastor Rick of the First Baptist Church.  We had been chatting over the phone over the past few days via phone and he was very interested in our ride.  He opened the church for us after he had been working on his farm all day.  He truly seemed like a humble man of God and was very welcoming and full of the Spirit in our conversations.

Since it was drawing to the end of my parents stay they took us all out to dinner at the local full service restaurant.  We enjoyed some seafood and a nice time with my parents.  The most memorable moment of the night was when Tyler asked my father who the most awesome person he ever met was.  I knew my father had met Jack Nicklaus, pro golfer, and a few other famous people so I expected him to say one of them.  However, he answered with someone none of us had heard of.  A Kenyan doctor named Florence was his answer.  He said she would make a much larger impact on people than any famous athlete or superstar because of her servant heart for doing her work in God’s name.  It was a sobering moment for all of us to look on.

For even we reach the Atlantic Ocean and feel the satisfaction of conquering a tough task, in time it will pass and people will forget.  However, the things we do for people and our service to God will last forever.
