June 2nd, Tuba City, AZ - Kayenta, AZ

Day 9

We were all getting pretty tired of Arizona as we begun our ride but we knew that in a couple days we would be crossing over to the next state.  On the ride we had some slight climbing but nothing we had not seen before.

We had an 83 mile day and as we pulled into Kayenta, AZ we realized we had not confirmed a place to stay at this point.  However, we had talked to a small church about a week before and it would turn out the Lord would provide.  While we were trying to get a hold of the church we saw a Sonic down the road and knew that we needed to get a drink and maybe a possible snack.  Luckily for me, this turned out to be a Route 44 Cherry LimeAid, a Chili burger, and some onion rings.  It was very satisfying and while we were eating we received a call from the church.

We arrived at the Church to meet Shelli.  The first baptist church was still looking for a full time pastor and Shelli’s story was very inspiring.  She had received her masters and had traveled back to Kayenta to teach her native people, the Navajo Native Americans.  She told us of the tragedy of so many Native Americans getting caught up in crime and things that lead to a bad future.  She wanted to teach them and also guide them to a path of living a Holy and Righteous life of joy rather than a life of self seeking pleasure.

We were able to shower and Wade made us all a wonderful dinner of chicken and pasta.  Though we were tired, we were inspired by Shelli’s kindness and prepared for the ride the next day.
