May 31st, Prescott Valley, AZ - Flagstaff, AZ
Day 7,
To celebrate Memorial Day we decided to face one of our toughest days of the ride. We were riding from a valley to one of the highest elevation cities in Arizona. We had a good preparation for the ride with stretching, a prayer, and a dedication.
We rode the first 50 miles of the ride with some tough hills but some beautiful sights as we rode into the Arizona town of Sedona. Sedona is a beautiful city with huge red rocks. Justin and I arrived in Sedona a little before everyone and stopped at a cafe to eat lunch. While we were struggling to find a place to set our bikes an older couple offered to watch them for us while we ordered. So we ordered our food and sat down with the couple to eat lunch. They were very interested in the ride and they had even lived in Bardstown, KY for a while. They were very nice and asked a lot of questions and even gave us $20 before they left. The man said he didn’t care how we used it (he suggested buying a beer for the calories) but we gave it toward the cause.

The next section of the ride would prove to be quite a challenge but such a beautiful and rewarding one. We climbed several switchbacks and mountains and arrived to the top to have a gorgeous scenic overlook. Several people approached us that said they had passed us on the road and wanted to know if we were using steroids to get up the mountains (sorry Lance).
But we finished our ride in flagstaff with a brief ride on the interstate (yeah picture that in your mind) and were welcomed by my wonderful parents who got us a hotel for the night. We ate some pizza and relaxed and reflected on a tough but great day of riding.
