May 30th, Congress, AZ - Prescott Valley, AZ

Day 6,

This ride had been long anticipated for us.  We had been told by all the men at the fire station that the ride we were approaching would be a scenic but difficult one.  It was called Yarnell Hill (look it up on youtube if you dare) and we could see it in the distance before our ride even began.  But, we knew that one way or another we had to make it up so we decided to tackle the hill early on this Arizona morning.

We each went at our own pace but me and Wade rode together most of the way.  Halfway up the hill we started screaming and grunting to defeat the hill and lets just say when we got to the top we had a moment straight out of the movie “300” (just imagine an epic hand clasp and roar).

The rest of the day was pretty up and down with steep downhills and climbs but we were able to make it to the town of Prescott.  There was an art festival going on in the town so we took a look around.  We were wearing our WKU jerseys and there was a random man at a corndog stand that knew about WKU.  I tried to sweet talk a free corn dog out of him but I ended up paying three dollars for one.

So we made it to our spot for the night and slept on the wrestling pads of Bradshaw Mountain High School.  It was a weird place to sleep but we weren’t complaining because we were able to shower and get out of the cold of the Desert nights.

The ride has been going very well up to this point but whoever reads this can continue to pray for safety and that people will feel led to contribute and invest in our cause, whether it be keeping up with us or donating toward the cause.
