May 25, Oceanside, CA - Borrego Springs, CA

Our day began with dipping our back wheels into the Pacific Ocean.  We all we very excited to begin despite the fact it was 6am and was a little chilly.  We tried to capture the moment as much as possible by taking pictures and each taking a small stone from the Pacific to carry to Virginia.  I was also blessed to have my parents and sister Ryan there to share the moment and see the group off.  We dedicated the days ride to Barret Cummings, Tyler Jury’s grandfather, whom the ride was initially inspired by. So following a group prayer and dedication we began our ride and started heading East.

30 miles in we were feeling pretty strong.  The terrain was relatively flat and was very scenic.  However, the next 15 miles would prove to be a good test for us.  It was all uphill with some sections of the hill being 8% grade.  However, we made it up the hill to my parents at their RV with a delicious lunch.  The next few miles were challenging but the last 15 was a ride to remember.  We literally didn’t pedal for 15 miles as we went downhill all the way to Borrego Springs.  The sights were breathtaking and the decent was a rush as we reached speeds of 48 mph.

We were glad to have 80 of our 3200 miles done and we were ready to keep riding for Alzheimer’s.
