May 23rd, Surfs Up

Day 4- Oceanside, CA

Today our wonderful host took us surfing at the beaches of Oceanside.  Other than Jordan Minton, none of us had any idea what we were doing, even as we tried to squeeze into our wet suits.  But, the day was a success as we embraced the freezing water and attempted to surf.

Following the day of surfing we traveled 30 minutes to a bike shop near San Diego.  On our day of cycling we ran into a fellow cyclist that asked about our ride.  We were able to give him some information and he invited us to come by his shop to pick up some supplies for our trip.  So we went by the shop UC Cyclery and they gave us some energy bars for our trip.  They also were very encouraging about our ride and agreed to link our website to their facebook.  All in all it was a refreshing time and got us all excited to start riding.

For dinner we met up with fraternity brothers Dana Hess (Rho Alpha Chapter at Virginia Tech), J.P. (Epsilon Alpha Chapter at University of Alberta), and Ethan (Rho Alpha Chapter at Virginia Tech).  We enjoyed some really good pizza but the conversation was the best part of the night.  Sitting across from J.P. (former field secretary of Phi Gamma Delta) he really inspired us to not settle for making this ride anything less than magnificent.  We should never stop striving to spread more awareness and tell more people about what we are doing.  We have already done the leg work, now we just need to spread the word to local cities and towns we go through.

But, we cannot do this alone.  We need the help of all our friends and families to get more publicity and raise more awareness for this ride.  Please help us out by directing people to www.fijisacrossamerica.com.
