May 21st, Amp Up Ride for Cycling Across America

Day 2- Oceanside, CA

The day began with everyone waking up at different times.  We had been tired from our travels, especially those who traveled from Kentucky in the support vehicle.  We had been doing some planning the night before and wanted to take this day to prepare ourselves logistically and physically for our trip across the country.  Some of the riders called ahead to the places we were staying in states such as Arizona and California and others went to take inventory of all food and supplies.  At one point Jordan Minton and myself were called upon to buy some zip-lock bags for the food.  In our search for CVS we just so happened to stumble upon an In N Out Burger (surprise! surprise! surprise!) and of course we took advantage.

The burgers proved to be good energy for the ride that we went on that day.  48 miles and a few pretty steep hills helped prepare our legs for the 3200 miles we were about to put on them in the next couple months.

We were also trying to spread the word by all wearing our Fijis Across America jerseys.  As you can see from the picture, it was a battle of doorags and helmets.  We all agreed that doo rags looked the best but Cameron Hamilton (far right) looked the cutest.

We finished our 48 mile route and later went to dinner with our wonderful host Jeff Ingram to relax after a long day.  It was a great day for us to get on our bikes after a few days of traveling, but also was good for our team morale as sometimes you can only plan so much and you just need to get out there in the elements as a group and simply ride.
