May 20th, Arriving to California
Day 1-
530 am Thursday morning came early as I left for the airport with my parents to fly out to San Diego. I met my little brother in the fraternity, Justin Cave, at the airport and we were both smiling from ear to ear. We both knew the journey we were preparing to embark upon. We talked as we sat in the Dallas Airport after our first flight. We spoke of the magnificent sites we would see, the generous people we would meet along the way, but also the moments of trial we would face. However, we both knew that on our own strength and motivation we would not succeed, but through God’s strength and the motivation that every pedal forward is one more pedal toward fighting the terrible disease of Alzheimer’s.

We flew into San Diego and picked up my luggage, which took $25 to check with America Airlines (Ouch!) and waited outside the airport like two bums trying to hitch a ride. Finally, we saw a red suburban with magnets on the side and a large trailer come around the corner. Brother Wade Haga let out a war cry as he hung his head out the window to welcome us into the great state of California to begin our journey. We got into the car and were refreshed by having the whole group in one place.
After a stop at the delicious In N Out Burger (Which will probably become a trend) we met up with Jeff Ingram at his home in Oceanside, CA. He was very hospitable and welcomed us to his house with a big spaghetti dinner.
We went on to organize the trailer and clean up our bikes for the ride we were preparing for the next day. We were excited and anxious to finally be in the state in which this ride would begin. We have been working for several months in preparation for the ride and are now ready to embark upon this new adventure.
